The Golden Compass: a powerful film with a fascinating allusion to genital cutting
2/2/2011
Thanks to my esteemed colleague and coauthor Robert Darby for recommending "The Golden Compass" movie to me. Although it received quite mixed reviews, it is a powerful film with a fascinating allusion to genital cutting. The "General Oblation Board" uses children in a practice called "intercision" that is used to maintain the interests of the Magisterium, which may be a metaphor for both government and the Catholic Church. It is based on the book by Philip Pullman. I have not read the book.
